Cheong Wai Leong Conductor / Viola |
Born in Macau , Cheong Wai Leong acquired his early studies at Chan Sui Ki Perpetual Help College and the Macau Conservatory. He joined the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2000 as Viola Principle. A winner of the Macau Young Musicians Competition, Cheong got his professional training at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA ) with several scholarships including one from the Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau and the other from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he got a Diploma and Bachelor of viola performing (with honors) studying with Mr. kin-fung Leung , the First Associate Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and studied conducting under Mr Alan Cumberland, the conductor of the Academy Symphony Orchestra, Cheong is now the student of Maestro Henry Shek . Cheong is also the Assistant Viola Principle of the Academy Symphony Orchestra, often appearing as a soloist with the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra, Macau Orchestra and the Guangzhou Symphony. As an active musician, Cheong had appeared in several international music festivals, including the Charterhouse International Music Festival and Great Wall International Music Festival. He also travels with the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra to various countries which include China , Japan , Singapore , Australia and Europe . Cheong is now based in Macau, focusing on music teaching and concerts management. Cheong is now the strings teacher of the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra, Macau Baptist College , Chan Sui Ki Perpetual Help College, and Colegio De Santa Rosa de Lima (English secondary). Cheong is also the conductor of Macau Baptist College Orchestra, Colegio De Santa Rosa de Lima (English secondary) strings orchestra and the assistant conductor of Macau University of Science & Technology Orchestra. |
