Teresa Suen received her Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in harp performance from Northwestern University, studying with Professor Elizabeth Cifani, principal harpist of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. She is the recipient of a number of honours and awards, including the Brevard Music Festival Scholarship, Lee Hysan Foundation Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council, and C.F. Hu Postgraduate Memorial Scholarship. Suen began studying harp with Miss Michelle Abbott at The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, and later graduated with first-class honours in music from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She toured around the world with the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2000, and has performed in Malta, China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, Czech Republic, and the United States. During her postgraduate years, Suen was principal harpist of the Evanston Symphony Orchestra (2004-2007), and performed extensively with various orchestras in Chicago, including the Illinois Symphony, Park Ridge Civic Orchestra, Opera Moda, and Rockford Symphony, among others. She was also an invited soloist at the First International Harp Festival (2003) and the Fine Arts String Festival (2004). With a diverse repertoire spanning from the Renaissance to the present, Suen is an advocate of contemporary music. She has collaborated with many Chinese and American composers to date. Suen is also an enthusiastic and dedicated educator, and is an active member of the American Harp Society and the American String Teachers Association. Her engagement as a harp teacher at Northwestern University (2002-2006) and harp coach at the University of Chicago (2005-2007) won her much acclaim, and her students performed regularly in the Chicago area. Upon her return to Hong Kong, Suen performed in a solo recital presented by the Hong Kong Arts Festival in February 2009. She also held recitals at various university campuses. She has recorded for RTHK Radio 4 and performed with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the City Chamber Orchestra. Suen is currently a harp instructor and adjunct assistant professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and is also a harp coach for the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra.
